Manchester United teenager Chido Obi has emerged as a loan target for Dutch club Feyenoord, according to reports from De Telegraaf. The 18-year-old striker, who joined United from Arsenal in 2024, made eight first-team appearances in the second half of the 2024/25 season but failed to score and did not feature at all last season.
Obi's United struggles and loan availability
Obi was once considered one of the Premier League's brightest prospects, thanks to prolific goal-scoring in United's youth ranks. He was handed his first-team debut last year but failed to find the net in any of his eight appearances. Last season, he dropped out of first-team contention entirely, making no appearances under manager Michael Carrick.
Reports from Denmark earlier this month suggested there was 'massive interest' in a short-term deal for the youngster. Obi does not appear to have worked his way back up the pecking order, and United have made him available for loan.
Feyenoord's interest and striking options
Feyenoord have emerged as one of the interested parties, with De Telegraaf reporting that they hope to take the Dane on loan. However, the Dutch publication suggests Obi could struggle to make an impression on the first team at Feyenoord, given the competition he would face. Manager Giovenni van Bronckhorst already has Ayase Ueda, Ignacio Ferri and Shaqueel van Persie as options up front.
It seems unlikely that Manchester United would want to loan out a prospect to a club unlikely to provide him with regular first-team minutes, but Feyenoord's position could change before the transfer window closes. Ueda has been linked with an exit, and if he leaves, Obi could be brought in as an option with more chance of getting on the field.
Champions League football and other suitors
Feyenoord do offer Champions League football, having already booked their spot in the league phase of the competition. The Daily Mail report that FC Koln have also shown an interest in the 18-year-old this summer.
Manchester United will be hoping their first-team strikers are more potent at the weekend after drawing a blank in the 2-0 defeat to Hull City on Saturday. Matheus Cunha played up top, with Benjamin Sesko coming off the bench as he continues his return to full fitness. The Red Devils host Ipswich Town on Sunday, and Sesko may be back in the starting XI against the Tractor Boys.
