United's New Goalkeeping Plan Takes Shape
Manchester United have reportedly decided on Andre Onana's future, with plans to sell the Cameroon international at the end of the current season. The 29-year-old goalkeeper, who joined United in a £47.2 million deal from Inter in 2023, is currently on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor after losing his place as first-choice keeper under manager Ruben Amorim.
Lammens Impresses as Onana's Replacement
Onana's departure opened the door for new signing Senne Lammens, who arrived from Belgian club Royal Antwerp for an initial £18.1 million on the summer transfer window's final day. The 23-year-old has made an immediate impact, delivering impressive performances in his first five appearances for the Red Devils.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United's loan agreement with Trabzonspor does not include a purchase option, meaning Onana will return to Old Trafford when the loan concludes next summer. However, the club hierarchy has already determined that the Cameroonian has no long-term future at the club.
Summer Exit Looms for Returning Keeper
Romano stated on his YouTube channel: 'In this case, compared to Hojlund and Rashford there is no buy option clause included in the deal. Onana will officially return to United at the beginning of the summer transfer window 2026, but my understanding is United are super with Senne Lammens.'
The transfer expert added: 'In this moment I don't think Onana will be part of Manchester United's plans. Probably the idea would be to part ways, to find a solution for Onana, to explore the market.'
When Onana returns to Manchester next summer, he will have two years remaining on his current contract. United's decision follows several high-profile errors that saw the goalkeeper dropped for the club's opening three Premier League matches this season before his temporary move to Turkey was arranged.
