Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign away to newly-promoted Hull City this afternoon, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans potentially set to make their league debuts for the club. The Red Devils are looking to pick up where they left off last season, with no side picking up more points since Michael Carrick’s arrival in January.
Confirmed starting XIs and team news
Manchester United’s starting XI features Lammens in goal, with a back four of Mazraoui, Maguire, Heaven and Shaw. Santos and Tielemans start in central midfield, supported by Mbeumo, Fernandes and Dorgu, with Cunha leading the line. The substitutes are Darlow, Dalot, Martinez, Yoro, Mainoo, Lacey, Rashford, Sesko and Zirkzee.
Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo are named amongst the substitutes, while Amad does not appear to have travelled with the squad. Mbeumo looks set to start on the right, with Cunha leading the line. Benjamin Sesko, who did not play a minute of pre-season, is also on the bench.
Hull City’s lineup and injury concerns
Hull City’s starting XI is Tzolakis; Coyle, Ajayi, Egan, Mendy, Giles; Crooks, Slater; Belloumi, McBurnie, Stroud. The substitutes are Phillips, Millar, Hjerto-Dahl, McNair, Drameh, Herrington, Targett, Dowell and Gourna.
The newly promoted side have plenty of injury problems ahead of this match. Jack Butland is out after an elbow operation over the summer, joining Darko Gyabi, Eliot Matazo and Joe Gelhardt on the sidelines. Charlie Hughes, Hidemasa Morita, Matty Jacob and Oscar Zambrano also look set to miss out.

The match kicks off today at 12.30pm BST. Viewers can watch the match live on TNT Sports 1, with streaming also available through the HBO Max app. Alternatively, fans can follow all the action through Metro’s live matchday blog.
Hull are looking to pick up their first Premier League win over United as they make their return to the English top-flight for the first time since 2017. Manchester United, meanwhile, have strengthened over the summer, particularly in central midfield, with the arrivals of Santos and Tielemans.
