Man Utd confident of signing £55m Newcastle star Tonali and Atalanta's Ederson
Man Utd confident of Tonali and Ederson transfers

Manchester United are growing increasingly confident about securing deals to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali and Atalanta's Ederson during the summer transfer window, according to reports in Italy.

Midfield overhaul planned

The Red Devils have made strengthening their midfield a top priority for the upcoming window and are targeting two new signings. Several options have been considered by the club, including Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, Brighton's Carlos Baleba and West Ham's Mateus Fernandes. However, Sky Sport Italy reports that United's primary targets are Tonali and Ederson.

Tonali's potential move

Tonali is about to finish his third season at Newcastle following his £55 million move from AC Milan in 2023. Newcastle have missed out on European football for next season and are already in talks to sell Anthony Gordon to Bayern Munich to ease their financial concerns. Eddie Howe is desperate to keep Tonali at St James' Park, but reports in Italy this week have claimed that Newcastle would be willing to sell the 26-year-old for €100 million (£86 million). Earlier this season, reports in Brazil had claimed that United were also considering a move for Tonali's Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes.

Ederson's situation

The report claims that United's hierarchy are 'confident' of agreeing a deal to sign both players, although they face strong competition from Atletico Madrid for Ederson. The midfielder, who has been left out of Brazil's World Cup squad by Carlo Ancelotti, is valued at €45 million (£38.9 million).
