Lee Dixon: Rashford is an 'Arsenal player' but Arteta can't trust him

Lee Dixon has described Manchester United's Marcus Rashford as an 'Arsenal player' but is not convinced Mikel Arteta could trust him in his team. The Arsenal legend's comments come as Rashford's future remains uncertain following a loan spell at Barcelona.

Rashford's Barcelona loan and uncertain future

After a significant dip in form at Manchester United, Rashford sought a fresh challenge last summer, joining Barcelona on a season-long loan. The deal included an option to buy for £26 million, and initial signs suggested Barcelona would activate that clause. However, the Catalan club is now reluctant to trigger it and will attempt to negotiate another loan deal. Barcelona have also reportedly tried to agree on a lower fee with United, but the Premier League side has no intention of reducing the price. This leaves Rashford's club future in doubt, with a return to Manchester a real possibility at the end of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with interest in the England international, provided they avoid relegation to the Championship. Other Premier League clubs are also likely to show interest.

Dixon's assessment: an Arsenal player but untrustworthy

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, Dixon expressed his admiration for Rashford's abilities. 'Being an ex-Manchester United player, Marcus Rashford to Arsenal doesn't sit well with me because I don't really like United. But as a player, I've always been a big fan of his,' Dixon said.

He added: 'Obviously, he dropped off his levels. What happened at the end of his United career was unfortunate. It didn't end particularly well. He flitted in and out of the Barcelona set-up. He's a player on his day that is absolutely, you know, he's an absolute Arsenal player in as much as he's got, you know, he's got pace, he's direct. However, I'm not sure you can trust him, so I think Arsenal could do better.'

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their left-wing position this summer, and Rashford's pace and directness would seemingly fit the profile. However, Dixon's concerns about consistency and trustworthiness suggest a move to north London may not be ideal.
