Christian Kofane has revealed he would be open to a future move to the Premier League, but the 20-year-old striker insists he remains fully committed to Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the new season. The Cameroon international's agent, Eric Depolo, recently confirmed that Arsenal's interest in the player is genuine, with the Gunners reportedly considering a summer swoop.
Impressive Debut Season in Germany
Kofane joined Leverkusen from Spanish second-tier side Albacete last summer and quickly showcased his potential in the Bundesliga. Despite not yet securing a regular starting spot, he finished his debut campaign with an impressive tally of seven goals and nine assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
His standout performances came during the Champions League last-16 tie against Arsenal, where he held his own against Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. In the second leg at the Emirates, Kofane was unfortunate not to score, with Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya producing a stunning save to deny him late on.
Agent Confirms Arsenal Interest
Reports from Germany suggested Arsenal were so impressed by Kofane's displays that they discussed a potential move, and his agent Eric Depolo confirmed the interest. 'Yes, Arsenal's interest is genuine,' Depolo told Daily Arsenal. 'The manager [Mikel Arteta] likes him very much.'
Depolo also revealed that Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich have all expressed interest in the young forward. He suggested that Arsenal are in 'pole position' to secure a deal, citing the player's ability to speak Spanish like Arteta and the Cameroon connection with William Saliba.
'I think it is too early to say [which club is leading the race],' Depolo explained. 'But due to the fact that the player speaks Spanish, like Mikel Arteta, and that William Saliba is originally from Cameroon, I would say Arsenal are in pole position. There is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus right now is to win the league – from there everything will start moving.'
Player's Stance on Future
Despite the speculation, Kofane has made it clear that his immediate focus is on Leverkusen. 'I can certainly imagine it, yes. It's one of the best leagues in the world,' he told German newspaper Kicker. 'But I want to take it step by step. I'm young and still have big plans with Bayer Leverkusen.'
He added: 'Bayer Leverkusen is a great club that has given me a great opportunity and a lot of confidence. I feel very comfortable here.' Kofane's current contract with Leverkusen runs until June 2029, which could complicate any potential transfer.
Agent's Valuation and Other Interest
Depolo claimed that Kofane is a 'complete' striker who could lead Arsenal's attack for the next decade. 'He is a €100million (£85m) player. With Kofane, Arsenal will have a top striker for the next ten years,' he said.
Everton are also believed to have stepped up their interest in recent months, reportedly making enquiries about a deal. However, Kofane's commitment to Leverkusen and his long-term contract suggest that any move would require a significant fee and a strong pitch from interested clubs.
As the new season approaches, Kofane remains focused on continuing his development in the Bundesliga, while the speculation around his future is likely to persist given the interest from top European clubs.
