Joe Cole has put forward Oliver Glasner's name as a 'good shout' to manage Chelsea, suggesting the Crystal Palace boss would jump at the chance to take charge this summer. Chelsea are without a permanent head coach after Liam Rosenior's sacking, with Calum McFarlane stepping in temporarily for the second time in four months. A 3-0 defeat to Brighton, the club's fifth straight loss, sealed Rosenior's fate. McFarlane then led Chelsea to a 1-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Leeds and is expected to manage the team against Manchester City in the final on May 16.
Chelsea's hierarchy is eager to appoint a full-time replacement soon, with Glasner, who will leave Palace this summer, among the candidates. Andoni Iraola, Felipe Luis, and Cesc Fabregas have also been linked, though Fabregas has committed to Como. Speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Cole said: 'Glasner is a good shout because he's not in that bracket where he's top. He'd still look at the Chelsea job and go, "That's a step up from Eintracht Frankfurt and Palace."'
Cole added that Chelsea must find a manager who can 'get a grip' without huge spending, as the club's finances are tight. He dismissed top-tier names like Luis Enrique and Xabi Alonso, emphasizing Glasner's suitability. Cole also called Fabregas an 'interesting' option due to his elite experience, despite his inexperience as a manager. In his Paddy Power column, Cole advised Frank Lampard to avoid a third spell at Chelsea, praising his work at Coventry City.
Chelsea return to Premier League action against Nottingham Forest on Monday, aiming to end a five-game losing streak that leaves them eighth. Victory could lift them to sixth.
