The decision, confirmed in a statement, comes after years of what the group describes as rising ticket prices, restrictive measures, and legal pressure that have made it increasingly difficult to sustain an active supporter culture.
Group cites ticket prices and restrictions
In their statement, the Holmesdale Fanatics explained that many young people are being pushed away from the game. They pointed to "sky high ticket prices," "needless restrictions" aimed at stripping away the dignity of supporters, and "relentless harassment and legal action" as factors driving fans out.
The group warned that likeminded fans can no longer congregate at Palace in the numbers needed to maintain a growing active supporter culture. They called for a "drastic shift" at the club towards younger fans and a move away from a passive spectator culture towards one where supporters play an active role in influencing results.
Away match difficulties and broader trends
The statement also highlighted problems at domestic away fixtures. Supporters are banned from bringing materials into stadiums, coaches are regularly stopped, and fans face arrests. The group noted that away ends across the country are increasingly dominated by older fans, with the next generation failing to come through in significant numbers.
Two decades of achievements
Despite the decision, the Holmesdale Fanatics expressed pride in their achievements over the past 20 years. These include being at the heart of protests that rescued the club in 2010, securing an away ticket price cap that has saved working class people millions, and supporting the club through a record-breaking period.
The group concluded that they have taken the Holmesdale Fanatics "as far as it can go in the current climate" and are choosing to stop all organised activity inside the stadium. They said the decision was not taken lightly.
The announcement marks the end of an era for one of English football's most creative fan groups, known for their elaborate tifos, including a 2025 tribute to three Palace supporters and a display celebrating 100 years of Selhurst Park in 2024.
