If there is one thing we have learned from years of watching Hollyoaks, it is that when a wedding is on the horizon, twists, turns, and disaster are almost guaranteed. The long-awaited union of Ste Hay and Rex Gallagher is no different, despite fans hoping for smooth sailing.
A Turbulent Journey to the Altar
The couple has faced numerous obstacles in a short time. The devastating loss of Rex's mother Grace Black and grandfather Froggy Black, both killed by his aunt Clare Devine, and Ste's fling with his son Lucas' boyfriend Dillon Ray are just a few examples. Rex has also been exploring his identity by wearing women's clothes, which Ste has struggled to understand. During a night out at The Loft, Rex wore a woman's blouse, causing Ste to lash out and get arrested.
Ste's legal representation came from James Nightingale, and the former flames spent the night together. Rex overheard Ste admit to the one-night stand but decided to stay silent, claiming his experimentation with women's clothes was just a phase. However, Ro Hutchinson later overheard Ste discussing his night of passion with James.
Ro's Plan to Stop the Wedding
Ro, who recently admitted to having feelings for Rex, resolves to stop the wedding, believing Ste is undeserving of Rex's affection. Diane worries that her son is bottling up his feelings again. As the wedding day approaches, Rex makes a comment that leads Leela to believe he knows about Ste's fling with James. Ste extends a wedding invite to Beth Keane, unaware of the feud between the new clan and the Osbornes, but soon fears for his relationship after Leela informs him that Rex may already know about James.
After a conversation with Kathleen-Angel McQueen, Ro decides to follow his heart and tell Rex the truth but is soon stopped in his tracks. Later, a peaceful scene at The Dog is shattered as Ro bursts in and takes action to protect Rex and stop the wedding. Secrets subsequently come out, leaving the wedding's fate uncertain.
The Wedding Day
On the day of the nuptials, Ste takes it upon himself to ensure the wedding goes ahead with help from Leela. Guests gather, hoping for good news. Will Rex and Ste make it down the aisle, or will they accept that too much has happened to make it work?
