William Gallas Forecasts Arsenal's Trophy Haul for the Season

Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has made a bold prediction regarding the Gunners' trophy prospects this season, suggesting they will secure only one major honor despite competing on multiple fronts. Gallas expressed his concerns in a recent interview, highlighting the challenges facing Mikel Arteta's squad as they navigate a packed schedule.

Quadruple Hopes Dashed Early

Arsenal's ambitions for an unprecedented quadruple were shattered prior to the international break when they suffered a defeat in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. This loss has shifted focus to their remaining competitions: the FA Cup, Champions League, and Premier League. The team is set to return to action with an FA Cup clash against Southampton this weekend, followed by a crucial Champions League fixture midweek.

Gallas' Trophy Prediction

In his analysis, Gallas told football odds that Arsenal's most likely success will come in the Premier League. 'Can Arsenal win the treble? I think Arsenal will win one trophy and that's the Premier League,' he stated. 'They still have to be careful but normally they would win the Premier League from this position.' He expressed skepticism about their Champions League chances, despite being favorites to advance to the semi-finals, a competition that represents Arteta's only major trophy in six years at the club.

Regarding the FA Cup, Gallas noted that the outcome heavily depends on potential opponents. 'The FA Cup all depends on the result between Liverpool and Manchester City. If it's Manchester City in the final, I think Manchester City will win. If it's Liverpool vs Arsenal in the final, Arsenal will win. It's a different style and I think Liverpool's style suits Arsenal better.'

Injury Concerns and International Break Controversy

Arteta is currently assessing his squad ahead of the trip to St Mary's, with reports indicating that at least 10 players are dealing with injuries. Among them is William Saliba, who withdrew from the French national team citing injury, despite playing the full 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup final. Gallas commented on this situation, suggesting it might be a strategic move by Arsenal.

'I think Arsenal have protected their players. I don't know if they are really injured,' Gallas said. 'For me, it's very difficult to understand if you play 90 minutes plus in the final and nothing happened, nobody saw anything on him, and then they sent a message to the French national team to say he's injured.'

He elaborated that this could be a precautionary measure to manage player workload during the intense final stretch of the season. 'They tried to protect their players to not get one more game in their legs because now it will be like a sprint for the rest of the season. They've still got three competitions to win in the FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League. They tried to be very careful with the players in the international break.'

Gallas also touched on the broader implications, noting the agreements between clubs and national teams. 'It's about the agreements between the club and the national teams. If the national team asks for that player, the player has to go there. I don't know what was discussed between the medical staff from the national team and from the club. If every club does the same, there'd be no international football. That shows you as well the pressure Arsenal have got on their shoulders. That's why they did it.'

Looking Ahead

As Arsenal prepare for their upcoming matches, the pressure is mounting to deliver silverware. Gallas' predictions underscore the high stakes and competitive landscape of English and European football. With the Premier League title within reach and other trophies still up for grabs, Arteta's management and squad depth will be critical in the coming weeks.
