A new wave of rumors suggests that FromSoftware, the acclaimed developer behind Elden Ring, is working on a pirate-themed action RPG. Speculation has intensified following anonymous posts on 4chan, with some fans expressing strong desire for the project to be real.
Origins of the Rumor
The rumors began on May 6, 2026, when a 4chan user claimed that FromSoftware’s next single-player title would be called Cerulean Onslaught. According to the post, the game is a dark action RPG where players sail the ocean exploring islands, using their ship as a central hub. It is allegedly self-published and set to be revealed at Summer Game Fest on June 5, with a release planned just two months later in August, predating the previously announced The Duskbloods.
While 4chan leaks should be treated with skepticism, some note that Bloodborne itself was leaked via the same platform when it was known as Project Beast. However, the title Cerulean Onslaught bears a strong resemblance to the Cerulean Coast location in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, leading some to believe it may be a fan creation or an Elden Ring spin-off.
Second Leak and Details
On May 8, a separate 4chan post reiterated the idea of a pirate-themed FromSoftware project, this time with the working title Vessel. It describes a dark fantasy role-playing game that is not open world, but instead takes place entirely within the wreck of an island-sized ship that has crashed onto an island. Players are referred to as the Drowned, a naming convention similar to the Tarnished in Elden Ring and the Ashen One in Dark Souls 3.
The same post also claims FromSoftware is working on a fantasy mecha game, though this seems less likely given the studio’s current workload, which includes The Duskbloods and ongoing support for Elden Ring. However, a new Armored Core title may be in early development.
Fan Reaction
Despite the lack of concrete evidence, fans have expressed enthusiasm for the concept. One X user wrote: “Do I think this is real? No. But I’ve been saying this for YEARS. A FromSoft Soulslike pirate game would hit so damn HARD is not even funny.” Another commented: “A FromSoftware pirate souls game would be awesome, especially the aesthetic it would probably have some horror to it as well.”
Context and Skepticism
FromSoftware has not released two full games in a single year since 2012, and the last time they released a game and DLC in the same year was 2016 with Dark Souls 3 and Ashes of Ariandel. The idea of an ocean-themed project has circulated since 2022 but never materialized. While the rumors remain unsubstantiated, Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, could provide clarity if the original leak proves accurate.
For now, fans can only wait and hope that FromSoftware’s next major title will indeed set sail on pirate seas.
