A friend of Stewart McLean, a Canadian actor known for roles in Netflix's Virgin River as well as Arrow and Supernatural, has revealed that he sensed something was 'seriously wrong' when McLean failed to appear for a scheduled filming commitment in the days leading up to his death. The 45-year-old actor was found dead on Friday after being missing for a week. He was last seen at his home in a small residential community in Squamish, British Columbia, and was reported missing three days later. Police have since launched a murder investigation.
Friend's Concerns
Los Angeles-based acting coach Jeff Seymour, a close friend of McLean, told The Canadian Press that McLean's absence from a filming job was completely out of character. 'He was meticulous about everything. There would be no chance he just blew something off or overslept. As soon as I heard he didn't make it, I knew there was big trouble,' Seymour said. He described McLean as 'incredibly situationally aware' and expressed bewilderment at how anyone could have 'got the drop on' the actor.
A Fast Friendship
Seymour recalled meeting McLean eight years ago at a coaching session, and they quickly became 'fast friends'. McLean last visited Seymour in California in April. 'Everybody loved this guy,' Seymour said. 'He was a bit of a loner. He spent a lot of time reading and being at his home out there in Squamish. It's just a shocker. I would love to see justice served.'
Tributes from Representatives
McLean's representatives at Lucas Talent Inc. paid tribute on Facebook. Agent Jodi Caplan, who worked with McLean for over a decade, wrote: 'He was always such a pleasure to deal with – dedicated, professional, eager, and endlessly funny! Many casting directors have reached out to share their condolences, and every message says the same thing: what a truly great guy he was, and how deeply he will be missed.'
Police Investigation
Canada's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is actively collecting evidence, reviewing CCTV footage, and conducting interviews to build a timeline of McLean's final moments. 'We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends and loved ones of Mr McLean,' IHIT stated. The disappearance is believed to be an 'isolated incident'. Police urge anyone with information to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
