Forza Horizon 6 Tops Metacritic as Best Game of 2026

Forza Horizon 6 has knocked Pokémon Pokopia off its Metacritic podium, becoming the highest-rated game of 2026 so far. The racing title, which launches on Xbox and PC this week and next, currently holds an average score of 92 based on 65 reviews. In comparison, Pokémon Pokopia and Resident Evil Requiem are tied for second place with scores of 89, though Pokopia has a broader range of 111 reviews.

The Battle for Top Spot

The race for the year's best video game has been tight, with Resident Evil Requiem initially leading after its February launch. However, Pokémon Pokopia surprised everyone in March by being one of the best Pokémon games ever made, tying with Requiem. Now, Forza Horizon 6 has pipped both games to the post. It's worth noting that Metacritic scores are influenced by review count; Forza Horizon 6 has 65 reviews, while Pokopia has 111. If individual platform scores are considered, the Xbox Series X version of Resident Evil Requiem scores 93, but that's based on only 15 reviews, whereas the PlayStation 5 version is used as the default.

Gameplay and Reception

While Forza Horizon 6 is extremely fun to play, critics note it doesn't break new ground. The game is off to a strong start on Steam, ranking as the second best-selling game, behind Subnautica 2, which launched in early access at a lower price point. Subnautica 2's launch has also boosted sales of its predecessors.

Forza Horizon 6 will be publicly available on May 19 for Xbox Series X and PC, while the PlayStation 5 version is expected later this year. Microsoft is likely pleased with the accolades, though sales figures are not yet available. Developer Playground Games is also working on a Fable game, so Forza Horizon 7 is not a priority.
