Ferran Torres has cast doubt on his Barcelona future, revealing he is open to a summer exit amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Tottenham. The 26-year-old forward, who scored the decisive goal in Spain's World Cup final victory over Argentina last month, admitted that "everything can change in one minute" in football and that he must be ready for any outcome.
Torres' Uncertain Stance
Torres, who has one year remaining on his contract with Barcelona, told CNN that he is due to report for training on August 12 but is unsure what the future holds. "Right now the only thing that I know is that on August 12 I have to stay there [Barcelona] and train with them, so let's see what happens," he said. When asked if he would be open to a move to PSG, he replied: "You never know because in football everything can change in one minute, so I have to be ready for everything."
The Spanish international emphasized that his next decision would be based on personal happiness. "Trying to think what is going to be the most happy thing for me, only this, and for my family," he added.
Barcelona's Stance Questioned
In a separate interview with Sportico, via Mundo Deportivo, Torres called on Barcelona to demonstrate their desire to keep him, suggesting they have not done so yet. "Barca has to show they want me. They can come and negotiate, and in the end, everything will be discussed," he said. "I have a contract with Barca. It's true that in football you never know what might happen, but the good thing is that, since I have a contract, I can wait and decide for myself."
Torres comes off the best goal-scoring season of his career, netting 21 times in 49 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions. His international record is equally impressive, with 25 goals in 65 caps for Spain, including the World Cup winner and the European Championship triumph two years ago. He has also won the Premier League with Manchester City and three La Liga titles with Barcelona.
PSG Lead the Chase
PSG, managed by former Spain boss Luis Enrique, appear to be at the front of the queue for Torres' signature, but Arsenal and Tottenham have also been linked with the forward. The uncertainty at Barcelona is compounded by the departure of Robert Lewandowski, leaving the club short of traditional strikers. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick acknowledged the situation, saying: "It depends on the team. We have to wait. I have total confidence in Deco, and we know we have to do something. It also depends on Ferran. We'll see what we'll do."
Flick also mentioned that Lamine Yamal could fill the false nine role, but stressed that Torres' future remains a key factor in their transfer plans. With the summer transfer window in full swing, Torres' next move could have significant implications for Barcelona's attacking options and the Premier League title race.
