Como President Says Fabregas Free to Leave for Chelsea Manager Job
Fabregas Free to Leave Como for Chelsea, Says President

Como 1907 would not stand in the way of Cesc Fabregas leaving for Chelsea, the club's president has confirmed. Fabregas, who played for Chelsea for five seasons, is now head coach of the Serie A side and is among the favorites to replace the recently sacked Liam Rosenior at Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas Free to Go

Club president Mirwan Suwarso told City AM: "If that makes him happy, that's him. You want your employees to stay with you for as long as possible but at the end of the day we don't own him and he's free to go to Chelsea if he wishes." Fabregas holds around one percent equity in Como, which was in Italy's fourth tier as recently as 2019, alongside fellow former Arsenal player Thierry Henry.

Shareholding and Conditions

Suwarso, a senior figure linked to the club's Indonesian ownership, stressed that "as long as he doesn't leave to an Italian club in competition," there are structures for the Spaniard to keep his shares. "Business is business, ideas are ideas. We have to see things in a way that makes sense. It's common sense," he added. Fabregas is also heavily involved with Como's foundation.

Rosenior Sacked

Rosenior was relieved of his duties at Chelsea this week after being appointed in January from Strasbourg, a club sharing an ownership group with Chelsea. He was sacked following a 3-0 loss to Brighton on Tuesday, which extended the team's top-flight losing streak to five games without scoring for the first time in over 100 years.

Other Candidates

Outgoing Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is also tipped for the shortlist, alongside former Chelsea players Frank Lampard and Filipe Luis, and outgoing Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner. Chelsea next play on Sunday in an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley, followed by four Premier League matches.

Fabregas's Season

Fabregas's Como lost in the Coppa Italia semi-finals this week but have four league matches remaining, with the club chasing Champions League qualification for the first time in history.
