Thomas Frank urged to quit Tottenham as ex-defender Vega slams 'shambles'
Ex-Spurs star tells Thomas Frank to resign over 'shambles'

Pressure is mounting on Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank after former defender Ramon Vega publicly called for his resignation, describing the club's current state as a 'shambles'.

Vega's Scathing Critique on Social Media

The criticism came via social media platform X, where Vega, who played for Spurs between 1997 and 2001 and won the League Cup in 1999, directly addressed the under-fire boss. He dismissed Frank's references to the club's 17th-place finish last season as an excuse for current poor form.

'Frank, stop talking about last season,' the former Switzerland international wrote. 'You now have more fit players than Ange [Postecoglou] had last season, yet you're still not better off. In fact, it's a shambles.'

Vega contrasted Frank's tenure with that of his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou, who won the Europa League to secure Champions League qualification despite a difficult domestic campaign. 'At least Ange with no support made a miserable season into a wonderful ending for the fans... You are now enjoying. So please do us a favour and resign, mate!' he added.

Frank's Defence and Tottenham's Struggling Season

The outburst follows a difficult period for Frank's side, who sit 14th in the Premier League after consecutive defeats. They face Crystal Palace this Sunday aiming to halt their slide.

Speaking to Sky Sports recently, Frank argued the club is in a transition phase, highlighting the anomaly of their Champions League qualification. 'We only qualified because we won the Europa League. We didn't qualify because we were one of the four or five best clubs in the Premier League last season. We finished 17th,' he stated.

The Dane's overall record this season is mixed:

  • Premier League: Played 17, Won 6, Drawn 4, Lost 7
  • Champions League: Played 6, Won 3, Drawn 2, Lost 1
  • Carabao Cup: Played 2, Won 1, Lost 1
  • UEFA Super Cup: Played 1, Drawn 1

Character Questions and a Suggested Replacement

This is not the first time Vega has criticised Frank this season. In a previous talkSPORT interview, he questioned the manager's character and ability to handle a big club's dressing room.

'He needs to manage the dressing room. Here the football is a psychological side,' Vega said. 'If he doesn't control the dressing room... he can be as good as he wants, as nice as he is. But he doesn't have the balls. I don't see Frank pretty much suitable for Spurs because he hasn't got the balls, hasn't got the character to do this.'

Vega also suggested a potential successor: former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, currently managing Hungarian side Ferencvaros. 'I have a suggestion. Robbie Keane. He's done very well and has just beat Rangers,' Vega said, referencing a recent Europa League victory.

Keane has built managerial experience in India, as an assistant for the Republic of Ireland, Middlesbrough, and Leeds, and in head roles at Maccabi Tel Aviv and now Ferencvaros since January.

With unrest growing among supporters and a key former player now demanding change, Thomas Frank faces a critical period to turn results around and silence his critics.
