Chris Coghill, who plays Kev Townsend in Emmerdale, has addressed fan speculation about a potential romance between his character and Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), suggesting that while they bicker like children, they are growing closer. The actor's comments come as Nicola's husband Jimmy (Nick Miles) is set to die, leaving her future open.
Coghill on Kev and Nicola's Dynamic
When Metro told Coghill that fans are convinced there is something between the sworn enemies, he responded cautiously, saying, 'Are they now?' before protesting, 'She's married to Jimmy!' However, with Jimmy's impending death, the question remains whether Kev and Nicola could become more than just adversaries.
Coghill elaborated on their relationship, describing it as 'classic playground flirting.' He said, 'They just have a go at each other all the time. But they're getting closer. They're starting to appreciate each other a bit more.' This suggests a thawing in their previously hostile dynamic, which has been marked by Nicola's attempts to keep Kev away from Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches), his biological son.
Kev's Sabotage and Blackmail
Meanwhile, Kev is set to make Jimmy's life even harder. On the orders of Caleb and Ruby Miligan (William Ash and Beth Cordingly), Kev will sabotage Jimmy's haulage business. 'They enlist Kev to rob a delivery from the haulage firm, which sends the haulage firm into a spiral so Jimmy will agree to them buying it at a cheaper price,' Coghill explained. He added that Ruby tells Kev there's a massive haul inside, but he ends up with 3,000 nappies, and they use Kev for blackmail related to the Steve incident.
Coghill also clarified the off-screen attack on Billy, which is used as leverage. 'The fact is, after Claudette's elbowed Steve and told him to leave – all of this is off-screen which is why it's quite hard to get your head round – he heads up to the depot for one last job, and, like I said, none of this is seen on screen, and Kev follows him to stop him and Billy is just in the wrong place at the wrong time.'
Fan Reactions and Future Possibilities
Despite the current obstacles, fans are already shipping Kev and Nicola, with a poll asking whether they are 'stanning' the pair. While Coghill remains non-committal, his admission that they are 'getting closer' leaves room for speculation. With Jimmy's death looming, the possibility of a Kev and Nicola romance remains open, though the actor's playful denial suggests it might not be straightforward.
As the storyline unfolds, viewers can expect more tension and unexpected twists, especially with Kev's involvement in the robbery and blackmail plot. Whether Kev and Nicola will overcome their history remains to be seen, but their evolving relationship is certainly one to watch.
