EastEnders Star Joins Coronation Street as Tyrone's Dad

Coronation Street is set to introduce another new character to majorly shake things up for one resident, and he is played by a former EastEnders star. In a recent chat with producer Kate Brooks, it was revealed that Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) is about to have another curveball thrown his way when his dad, Ross, arrives on the cobbles.

Poor Tyrone has had a rough year of it, having been left with serious injuries after being mowed down by Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) in a hit and run. It has only been a couple of years since Tyrone was first introduced to his estranged mum, Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) – an experience that took a lot of adjusting to for the mechanic.

'Tyrone's dad makes an appearance in the show. Needless to say, he comes with quite a bit of drama, and it is going to cause quite a lot of friction within that family, obviously with Cassie's history,' Kate revealed. After a dramatic stint on Coronation Street, Cassie is set to depart later this year, and Kate has teased the role that Ross will play in her exit.

'As you know, Cassie is leaving us, and so it will contribute to her exit, which is going to be massive and quite explosive. It will be full of all the twists and turns that you can come to expect from an exit.' Now, The Sun has revealed that the role of Ross is set to be taken on by former EastEnders star Ian Burfield. The actor played DCI Peter Arthurs across the span of eight years until 2025, having previously had stints as DI Hamilton in 1997 and DI Kelly between 2007 and 2010. Now, he is set to turn things upside down for Tyrone and his family in Weatherfield.

'He comes into the world of Fiz and Tyrone. Tyrone is in the mindset of, I am in my 40s, I have survived this long without a dad. The dad is very keen to connect with Tyrone,' Kate explained. 'It is not long before the dad makes eyes at one of the residents, and maybe a bit of a relationship starts there. It is very domesticated. It really shines a spotlight on Fiz and Tyrone as a couple and that dynamic as a family.'

'Cassie is, needless to say, not happy that this guy has turned back up.' The arrival of Ross promises to bring dramatic twists and turns, particularly surrounding Cassie's explosive exit later this year. Fans can expect plenty of friction and emotional turmoil as Tyrone navigates this new family dynamic.
