Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) has wasted no time in proving that four years behind bars have not reformed him, as he orchestrates a brutal attack on Ian Beale's (Adam Woodyatt) new prison friend in the latest episode of EastEnders. The killer, who previously murdered wife Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) and neighbours Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) and Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White), is determined to get his son Jordan (Jahsaiah Williams) away from mother Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) by any means necessary.
Gray's Prison Manipulation
Gray, who is serving time for his crimes, has been manipulating Ian, who is also in prison after being jailed for eight months for knocking down young Jordan in a road accident earlier this year. Jordan had run off following an argument with Chelsea, and Ian was unaware the child was in the road. Gray, upon learning what happened to his son, blamed Chelsea for the incident and has since been plotting against her.
With Ian and Chelsea also on bad terms – Chelsea failed to attend Ian's sentencing to give a statement to the court – Gray saw an opportunity. He offered Ian protection while in prison in exchange for arranging a visit with Chelsea. Ian, who knows Gray cannot be trusted, was initially hesitant.
The Attack on Lloyd
Ian had struck up a friendship with another prisoner named Lloyd, bonding over shared disappointments in life. After witnessing a violent showdown between two inmates, Ian feared for his future. Gray, watching from afar, felt threatened by this new friendship, fearing that Lloyd could interfere with his plans.
In tense scenes, Gray ordered a gang of inmates to beat up Lloyd while Ian watched helplessly. The attack was designed to make Ian fear for his own safety, forcing him to accept Gray's 'protection' and comply with his demands. As a result, Ian called Chelsea to arrange a visit, believing he had no other choice.
Kidnap Plot Unfolds
The question now is whether Gray will succeed in his plan. Will Chelsea realise the danger Jordan is in? Sheila Atkins (Sheila Ruskin), whose alliance with Gray was exposed last week, intends to kidnap Jordan while Chelsea is at the prison visiting Ian. The clock is ticking for Chelsea to work out what is happening before it's too late.
Meanwhile, Ian remains in a precarious position, having been drawn into Gray's web of manipulation. The episode leaves viewers wondering if Ian will ever see Gray for the untrustworthy killer he truly is.
