EastEnders villain Eddie Knight has Nicola Mitchell exactly where he wants her this week, as the dying racist murderer manipulates her into a dangerous secret arrangement. Eddie, played by Christopher Fairbank, made a shock return to the BBC soap earlier this month, revealing he is terminally ill and set for early release from prison. Initially, Nicola, portrayed by Laura Doddington, tried to shield her partner George Knight (Colin Salmon) from Eddie's attempts at reconciliation. However, after discovering her nightclub Harry's Barn is in dire financial trouble, Nicola accepted a bribe from Eddie to let him move into her basement flat in exchange for cash to save the business.
Eddie's Twisted Games Begin
George remains unaware of the deal, but if the truth emerges, it would devastate him. George disowned his father after learning Eddie murdered his birth father in a racially motivated attack when George was a child. The revelation also exposed that Eddie and his wife Gloria adopted George through illegal baby farming in the 1950s. As Eddie seeks to re-enter George's life, he has Nicola under his thumb and begins using her in his manipulative schemes.
The Naming Ceremony Drama
On Monday, the Knights and Mitchells gather for the Ghanaian naming ceremony of Nicola and George's newborn daughter Ivy. Nicola is distracted by a secret meeting with Eddie's prison officer. She eventually decides to confess to George that Eddie is moving into the basement flat, framing it as the right thing to do, but she omits the financial agreement. George initially resists but is convinced by Nicola. However, when Eddie arrives during the ceremony, the family reacts strongly.
While Nicola believes she has upheld her end of the bargain, Eddie corners her alone and demands that he be allowed to live upstairs with the family in the main house before he hands over the money. Nicola is left floundering and heads to Harry's Barn to assess the full extent of her financial troubles, weighing whether to bow to Eddie's demands. Cash flow is bleak, and despite her son Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) urging her to back out after a heart-to-heart with his girlfriend Gina Knight (Francesca Henry), Nicola feels forced to comply to save the club.
What Will Nicola Do?
With Nicola caught between a rock and a hard place, the question remains: will she risk her entire relationship with George for Eddie's cash, or will she devise a plan to rid herself of Eddie once and for all? EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday, 11th May at 7:30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
