EastEnders has confirmed that Charlie Suff, who plays Johnny Carter, is leaving the show, just days after it was announced that his on-screen mother Linda (Kellie Bright) will also depart. This double exit marks the end of an era for the Carter family, as no Carters will remain on Albert Square after their farewells.
Johnny Carter's Final Bow After Three Stints
Johnny, who was reintroduced three years ago with Charlie in the role, has been at the heart of several major storylines. He helped Linda cover up the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) during The Six storyline, supported her through a subsequent relapse, liaised with others involved in the cover-up, and recently began a relationship with Callum Highway (Tony Clay) while launching a law firm in the Square.
This marks the third time Johnny has left Walford, 13 years after his original debut. The character was previously played by Sam Strike and Ted Reilly. His first stint included a memorable coming-out scene with dad Mick (Danny Dyer), which became one of the show's most talked-about moments.
End of the Carter Era
An EastEnders spokesperson told Metro: 'We can confirm Charlie Suff will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.' According to The Sun, which first reported the news, Charlie understood that once Kellie decided to leave, his own exit would follow.
The Carter family first arrived in Walford in 2013 with Linda, Mick, and their children, though Shirley (Linda Henry) had been on the Square since 2006. They became one of Albert Square's most iconic families, living in the Queen Vic for a decade and featuring in numerous key plots. Danny Dyer left in 2022 with Mick vanishing at sea, and Shirley departed soon after.
Linda's Upcoming Exit
Linda will exit in upcoming scenes, with Kellie having decided to step away after 13 years in the role. Once both characters are gone, no Carters will remain on the Square, closing a significant chapter in EastEnders history.
The departures have sparked speculation about possible returns, but for now, fans can expect emotional farewells as these beloved characters say goodbye.
