Unbeaten filly Diamond Necklace extended her record to six wins with a comfortable victory in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Thursday, securing her fourth Group One prize. The three-year-old, trained by Aidan O'Brien, had won the Prix de Diane by a nose in June but made light work of her rivals this time, cruising past Friendly Soul inside the final quarter-mile to win by two and three-quarter lengths under jockey Ryan Moore.
Arc de Triomphe on the radar
Diamond Necklace is now the 10-1 third favorite for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in October, though her stamina for the 12-furlong trip is unproven. O'Brien said: "She has options now, whether she stays at a mile-and-a-quarter and goes to the fillies' race in France, or to Leopardstown or an Arc trial. It is possible [the Arc]. I don't know how far we ask her to go, but the next run will tell us." The only horses ahead of her in Arc betting are last year's winner Daryz and O'Brien's own colt Constitution River, winner of the French Derby and Eclipse Stakes.
O'Brien's double at Goodwood
Earlier on the card, O'Brien's Man's Best Friend won the Group Two Richmond Stakes, just eight days after his maiden win. O'Brien said: "He is a baby of a horse. We thought bringing him here today was going to do him good, win, lose or draw. All options are open. He looks a Middle Park type of horse or a Gimcrack horse." O'Brien's only Group One defeat at the meeting came in Wednesday's Sussex Stakes, where Gstaad finished second to Bow Echo for the third time this season.
Tips for Friday's card
In the Coral Golden Mile Handicap, Jack Channon's Godwinson (3.00) is an interesting each-way bet at 40-1, despite a wide draw. The six-year-old won the Lincoln in March 2025 and is 1lb below his last winning mark. Other selections include Annabel's Ghost (1.50), Talk Of New York (2.25), Jm Jungle (3.35), and Galen (4.10).
