Novikov Mayfair Review: Tom Holland and Zendaya's Favourite Spot
Novikov Mayfair: A Celebrity-Favourite Dining Experience

A recent visit to Novikov, the Mayfair restaurant frequented by celebrities such as Tom Holland and Zendaya, delivered an experience marked by exceptionally fresh fish dishes, attentive service, and a relaxed, intimate atmosphere ideal for special occasions. The restaurant, which houses both an Asian and an Italian kitchen, impressed with its calm open kitchen, low lighting, and a menu that, while overwhelming in size, offers standout dishes like the Mizuna spicy tuna sushi and the Novikov black cod.

First Impressions and Ambiance

Upon arrival, my friend and I were promptly seated at a table next to the open kitchen, where chefs prepared each dish with a notably calm demeanour. Rows of fresh ingredients, including fish taken directly from baskets to order, lined the kitchen area. The restaurant's relaxing atmosphere was enhanced by low lighting and calming music, with every table meticulously set for the next guests.

We were then presented with an almost overwhelmingly large menu packed with Asian dishes, ranging from sushi and fresh fish to noodles and fried rice. With such a vast selection, narrowing down our choices proved challenging; I believe Novikov could benefit from offering a few set menus to showcase their best dishes and simplify the decision-making process for guests.

Dishes and Drinks

Our waiter, Eduardo, proved invaluable, going out of his way to select some of Novikov's standout dishes. To drink, we ordered two cocktails – the French Royal and the Yuzu Splash – both wonderfully presented and refreshingly tasty.

We began with cold dishes, including scallops and jalapeño sushi, seared salmon nigiri, and salty edamame. The Mizuna spicy tuna sushi stood out for its fresh chunks of tuna paired well with vegetables. The Hamachi Carpaccio melted in my mouth, leaving a citrusy taste and generously topped with truffle.

Hot dishes soon followed, including crispy rock shrimp tempura with a complementary spicy mayonnaise, and spicy prawn dumplings. The wagyu tacos were a highlight, with a crunchy taco shell pairing well with tender wagyu beef and light guacamole. Our mains consisted of flavourful prawn fried rice, tangy sweet and sour chicken, grilled asparagus, and the Novikov black cod. The cod was so flaky it fell apart at the touch of a fork, tasting buttery and light.

Dessert and Overall Verdict

To finish, I tried the mango tiramisu, a fruity twist on the traditional Italian dessert. The soft, pillowy sponge layers were topped with smooth cream and chunks of mango. The bitterness of the cocoa powder balanced the sweeter flavours, creating a perfect end to the meal.

The staff at Novikov made every guest feel like royalty, checking in regularly without being overbearing and ensuring everyone was pleased with their meals. The restaurant runs like a well-oiled machine while making you feel welcomed. For a special occasion where you are treated as the most important person in the room, Novikov in Mayfair is worth a visit.
