Matheus Cunha Urges Casemiro to Stay at Manchester United for Another Season
Cunha Pleads with Casemiro to Extend Manchester United Stay

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has openly disclosed his persistent efforts to convince teammate Casemiro to remain at the club for at least one more season. The Brazilian international, who joined United from Wolves last summer, has been vocal in his desire for the experienced midfielder to extend his stay in Manchester beyond the current campaign.

Casemiro's Impending Departure

Casemiro, the £70 million signing from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, announced in January that the 2025-26 season would be his last with Manchester United. His contract is set to expire this summer, making finding a replacement for the 34-year-old a top priority for the club. Despite this, Casemiro has enjoyed a superb campaign, scoring his seventh goal of the season in a recent 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, where fans chanted "one more year" after his opening header.

Cunha's Personal Appeal

In an interview with TNT Sports Brasil, Cunha detailed his ongoing pleas to his countryman. "I'm always asking him, 'come on, stay at Manchester United!' Just one year with me, let's go for a second year," he said. Cunha emphasized their close relationship, noting, "We're very close, he's always helping and it's incredibly rewarding to play with him here and with the national team. I always learn from him and understand more and more how he won so many titles."

Cunha added that Casemiro has reached a stage in his career where he can decide where to play, expressing hope that it will be with United. The club does retain an option to extend Casemiro's contract by a further 12 months, though a U-turn seems unlikely at this point.

Dressing Room Support

Cunha is not alone in his wishes. Teammate Leny Yoro has also revealed that the entire dressing room wants Casemiro to stay. "Everyone wanted him to stay, he's a player [who is] really important for us," Yoro said. "Even in the dressing room, every day, he has the experience that no one else has in the team. He won everything, so this helped us a lot in the games and even outside the pitch."

This collective desire highlights Casemiro's significant impact on and off the field, with his experience and leadership valued highly by the squad. As the summer approaches, United faces the challenge of replacing a key figure in their midfield, while players like Cunha continue to hold out hope for a last-minute change of heart.
