Coronation Street has cast award-winning TV star Nathan Sussex in a major storyline for Tim and Sally Metcalfe. The actor, best known for playing the vile sex offender Buster in Hollyoaks, will appear as a relative of Tim's, played by Joe Duttine.
What to expect from the storyline
While specific plot details remain under wraps, the storyline is described as a big one that will bring significant tests for Tim and his wife Sally, played by Sally Dynevor. Show producer Kate Brooks previously hinted at the arc, saying it would 'upend their lives.' A source confirmed it is not an affair story, putting fans' fears to rest.
Nathan Sussex was gripping as a villain in Hollyoaks, winning awards for his role in a football coach abuse saga, one of the Channel 4 soap's most powerful storylines. Metro worked closely with Hollyoaks on that arc, and Sussex was always humble and passionate about the role.

The actor has appeared in It's A Sin, You, and Believe Me, playing vastly different characters. Whether he will be a villain on the cobbles remains to be seen. 'Nathan's casting is a coup for Coronation Street and an actor of his calibre won't just be coming in for a C-story,' a source told Metro. 'Working alongside Corrie legends Sally and Joe means it will be unmissable stuff, and it forms part of one of the show's big summer storylines, also moving into autumn. He's already started filming and it won't be long between first meeting him and seeing the crux of the story unfold.'
Summer and autumn arc
Fans can expect to see Nathan make his debut next month. Previous hints from producer Kate Brooks suggest that Sally and Tim's roles as foster parents will play a part. 'There's a massive story for Sally and Tim that comes to the fore, and it's a story that tests them as people, test them as a couple, but tests them as foster parents as well,' Brooks said earlier this year. 'It's a bit of a curveball, and it comes from slightly left field, but absolutely upends their lives. It's how they navigate that situation going forward.'
Brooks added that the story will dovetail with a Christina story later on. 'Christina and George are a really great, strong couple in the show. It's those friendships alive. There's a connection there as well.'
