Bad news for Casualty fans as the show is ripped from BBC schedules once again. The medical drama's latest boxset, Lethal Legacy, is taking a pause this week due to a major event airing on BBC One. Here's everything you need to know about the schedule change and the drama that has unfolded so far.
Why Isn't Casualty on This Week?
Casualty will not air on Saturday, May 16, because the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final will be broadcast instead. The final kicks off at 8pm and is due to finish around 11:50pm on BBC One. The two semi-finals for the competition will air on May 14 and May 15, both at 8pm.
What Has Happened in Casualty's Lethal Legacy So Far?
Lethal Legacy began with the fear of a new pandemic spreading. Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) and his team implemented measures at the hospital to deal with an influx of patients with respiratory problems, but they also had to manage the arrival of the military. The group, led by Colonel Jack Bard (Mark Womack), came to Holby City Hospital to help control the chaos.
Last Saturday, Flynn discovered a disturbing secret about Jack, whom he knows from his own time in the military. An explosion at the Wyvern Hill Estate saw Jack and his soldiers arrive, and they quickly found that the estate was also the site of a toxic waste dump. After another explosion, one of Jack's soldiers was injured. In the ED, Flynn examined him and was alarmed to find bruises on the young man's back. Flynn tried to get answers, but Jack arrived before he could uncover the truth, shutting down the exchange and leaving Flynn shaken.
Charlie Fairhead's Return
In other Casualty news, it was revealed in April that Derek Thompson will reprise his role as Charlie Fairhead. He played the character from the show's inception in 1986 until 2024, when Charlie retired. The details of his return, including whether he will be a nurse, patient, or visitor, have not been disclosed, but Metro understands his appearance will be brief.
Casualty fans are known for their resilience, enduring both intense medical scenes and frequent schedule changes. This week's break is just another test of their dedication.
