Casualty Fans Divided Over Stevie and Matty Romance

Casualty Fans React to Stevie and Matty's Surprise Kiss

Casualty fans have been sharing their thoughts on a surprising new pairing in the medical drama's latest boxset. The unexpected romantic moment between Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Matty Linklater (Aaron Julius) has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many viewers expressing their disapproval.

The storyline unfolds in the aftermath of a devastating mini-series finale that saw the death of resident doctor Kim Chang (Jasmine Bayes), who succumbed to complications from misusing weight-loss drugs. Kim's rapid deterioration was discovered by Matty, who found her unconscious and later witnessed her death in resus.

Both Matty and Stevie, who had mentored Kim, were deeply affected by her sudden death. In the midst of their grief, the two characters shared a passionate kiss behind an ambulance, coinciding with Dylan Keogh (William Beck) revealing to Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) that Matty is his son. Dylan, hopeful about his newfound relationship with Matty, remained unaware of the developing romance.

The steamy encounter continued in the episode aired on May 2, prompting a strong backlash from the audience. On Casualty's Instagram page, one fan wrote: 'I'm so glad I'm not the only one who really doesn't want this.' Another commented: 'stevie why???? I love you sm but matty???' Predicting further drama, a third added: 'STEVIE NO!!! this won't end well.'

On X (formerly Twitter), Shel expressed: 'Nothing will ever make me like this Stevie and Matty pairing, absolutely nothing! Zero chemistry like zero #casualty.' Jess echoed similar sentiments, tweeting: 'stevie what the hell is wrong with you (affectionately) #Casualty.'

Given that the fling began while both characters are still grieving Kim, it seems unlikely that they will suddenly become an official couple. The storyline may end in tears for both, especially as other developments unfold in the Emergency Department.

Meanwhile, former Emmerdale star Mark Womack has joined the cast as Colonel Jack Bard, a domineering figure whose influence over subordinates and Flynn threatens to shake the foundation of the ED. Additionally, it was recently revealed that Derek Thompson will return as iconic character Charlie Fairhead.

Casualty continues to air on BBC One, with episodes available on iPlayer.
