The Carabao energy drink brand has solidified its position in English football by extending its sponsorship of the League Cup through the end of the decade, while simultaneously announcing the UK launch of Carabao Lager. This strategic move comes as Manchester City and Arsenal prepare for Sunday's Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Historic Sponsorship Extension

Carabao has agreed to a further two-year deal with the English Football League (EFL), extending their partnership through the conclusion of the 2028-29 season. This extension transforms what was already a decade-long partnership into a remarkable twelve-year commitment, making Carabao the longest-serving naming partner in the League Cup's sixty-six-year history.

The competition, named after the swamp water buffalo, will continue to bear the Carabao brand as it enters this new phase of partnership. Trevor Birch, chief executive of the EFL, expressed enthusiasm about the extended collaboration, stating: "We're delighted to extend our long-standing partnership with Carabao, taking their title sponsorship of the League Cup to twelve seasons – the longest in the competition's history. The Carabao Cup occupies a special place in our game, bringing people together and creating moments that live long in the memory."

Expansion into Alcohol Market

Beginning next season, the Carabao Cup will witness the UK debut of Carabao Lager, marking the Thai energy drink manufacturer's expansion into the alcoholic beverage market across England. This strategic diversification represents a significant business move for the company as it seeks to broaden its product portfolio and market presence.

Sathien Sathientham, chief of Carabao Group, emphasized the company's commitment to English football, saying: "As proud sponsor of the Carabao Cup since 2017, Carabao is honoured to continue its long-standing partnership with the EFL. We are extremely delighted to have extended our sponsorship agreement through to the 2028-29 season."

Competition Legacy and Future

The League Cup has been dominated by several clubs throughout its history, with Liverpool holding the record for most victories at ten titles. Manchester City have claimed the trophy eight times, most recently in 2021, while Arsenal last won the competition in 1993. These four clubs represent the exclusive group to have lifted the trophy during Carabao's sponsorship era.

Sathientham further elaborated on the company's dedication: "This continued partnership reflects our deep commitment to the competition, to the EFL, and to football fans around the world.
