London is set to come alive tonight as England faces Argentina in the World Cup semi-final at 8pm. For those without a reservation, many venues across the city are offering walk-in space. From central London to the suburbs, these pubs and bars promise a lively atmosphere without the need for a booking.
Central London Options
Arcade Food Halls in Covent Garden, Tottenham Court Road, and Battersea Power Station will have some space for walk-ins. These venues offer diverse dining options including smash burgers from Manna, Thai dishes from Plaza Khao Gaeng, and pizzas from Gracey's. The Roebuck in Borough, a hidden gem on Great Dover Street, is fully walk-in for the match and known for its sustainable ethos.
North London Venues
The Bluecoats in Tottenham, a former girls' school turned pub, offers a solid beer selection and rotating eateries. Current resident August Blue serves cheffy takes on pub classics. The Golden Tooth on Green Lanes provides an extended bar snack menu until 9pm, with walk-in space in the front bar while the dining room takes bookings.
East London Spots
Mare Street Market in Hackney features a special World Cup menu from chef Gizzi Erskine and offers both indoor and outdoor spaces. Exale Taproom in Walthamstow, part of the Blackhorse Beer Mile, splits space 50/50 between bookings and walk-ins. They serve 12 beer lines, pitchers of spritzes, and classic cocktails.
South London Pubs
The Windmill in Clapham keeps most space for walk-ins, including its beer garden. The doors shut three hours before kick-off for earlier matches, so arriving early is advised. Bussey Rooftop Bar in Peckham offers excellent city views and always has walk-in space for early arrivals. Dulwich Hamlet FC Bar provides cheaper pints on a first-come, first-served basis.
West London Screenings
Fulham Pier's ground-floor sports bar is walk-ins only, with multiple huge screens, £5 pints and wines during Happy Hour from 4pm-6pm, and food served until 9.15pm.
