Arsenal have been dealt a significant blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Fulham this weekend, as Kai Havertz has been ruled out due to a groin injury. The Germany international was forced off after just 34 minutes in the recent match against Newcastle United, and despite hopes that he could contribute in the final weeks of the season, he will miss the visit of the Cottagers.
Havertz Injury Update
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Havertz is not available for selection. 'He's been a huge miss,' Arteta said. 'We are talking about one of the most important attacking players that we have, and he's not been the only one. The team has shown an incredible capacity to respond without him.' Havertz had started in Arsenal's biggest game of the season against Manchester City two weeks ago and kept his place against Newcastle before the injury struck. Viktor Gyokeres was restored up front in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid midweek.
Martin Odegaard Injury Concern
There are also concerns over Martin Odegaard, who was substituted before the hour mark in the match against Atletico Madrid. The Norway international had recently returned from a knee injury, playing the full 90 minutes against City and Newcastle before starting again in midweek. Arteta provided a cautious update, stating 'we will see' when asked about Odegaard's fitness, leaving his availability for Saturday's game in doubt.
Jurrien Timber Still Sidelined
Jurrien Timber has not featured since the victory over Everton in mid-March. What was initially thought to be a minor groin injury has now sidelined the Dutchman for nine games. Arteta confirmed that Timber remains out for Saturday's game alongside Havertz, further depleting Arsenal's defensive options.
Arsenal will be hoping to overcome these absences as they continue their push for a strong finish to the season. The Fulham match presents an opportunity for other players to step up and fill the void left by the injured stars.
