Arsenal agree personal terms with Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has expressed his desire to complete a summer move to the Premier League champions. The Brazil international, 28, has emerged as Mikel Arteta's top midfield target as the Gunners look to strengthen their squad after ending a 22-year wait for the league title last season.

Guimaraes eager for Emirates move

According to ESPN Brasil, Arsenal are prepared to make a bid of £65 million for the former Lyon star, though Newcastle are demanding at least £70 million before they entertain any offers. A new bid is expected imminently, with Guimaraes keen to facilitate the transfer. L'Equipe reports that the 28-year-old has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with the north London club.

Lyon, Guimaraes' former club, stand to benefit from the deal thanks to a 20 percent sell-on clause included in the £40 million transfer that took him to Newcastle in January 2022.

Meslier becomes first summer signing

Arsenal have also confirmed their first new arrival of the summer, signing goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer after his release from Leeds United. The French shot-stopper is expected to serve as David Raya's chief understudy, with Kepa Arrizabalaga considering his options.

Meslier expressed his delight at joining the club, stating: 'I'm extremely happy. It's a great day for me because I have just joined the champions. For me, Arsenal is the biggest club in England. I'm very happy and very proud to join Arsenal. I cannot wait to show the love that I've got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team, because this is a club that needs to lift trophies again and again.'

Hincapie option triggered

In addition to the Guimaraes pursuit and Meslier's arrival, Arsenal have already triggered their option to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen on a permanent deal, signaling further squad reinforcement as they prepare to defend their title.
