Arrest Made in Theo Murder Investigation
The investigation into Theo Silverton's murder has taken a dramatic turn in Coronation Street this week. Police have finally secured enough evidence to make an arrest, but it is bad news for Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), who has become the prime suspect.
Earlier this week, Summer caught the attention of detectives Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) when she was spotted wearing a brooch in Lisa's wedding pictures. The same brooch was later found in Theo's flat. However, the final piece of evidence came from George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), who gave in to his conscience and informed Lisa that Summer had lied about her whereabouts on the night of Theo's murder.
Summer had originally told detectives she last saw Theo a few days before his death, but George knew otherwise. He had seen her walking away from the flat that night. To make matters worse, George also found Summer's diary, where she detailed her true and violent feelings towards Theo. Urged on by Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), George came clean to Lisa about what he saw.
In tonight's episode, Summer overheard George and Christina whispering in the café. She was horrified when Christina said it would not be long before the police arrested her. Terrified, Summer decided to flee Weatherfield. She had recently been offered a place at a university in America and wasted no time arranging to move early.
However, as she attempted to escape, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) caught her and forced her to explain everything. Todd naturally took her side, but it was too late. Their car had barely reached the end of the street before police closed in and placed Summer under arrest.
When Lisa informed Todd that they had a witness placing Summer at the scene, he was heartbroken. George hid his guilt as Todd made his feelings clear. Will George come clean about his betrayal, and what does the future hold for poor Summer?
