Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim's heated in-game criticism of young defender Leny Yoro was caught on camera by a fan during a chaotic 4-4 Premier League draw with Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Dugout Displeasure Captured on Film
In footage shared widely on social media, Amorim can be seen returning to his seat in the technical area with his arms outstretched in frustration. The Portuguese coach is heard shouting in his native language: 'The game has gone on for half an hour, what is Lenny doing?'
The incident occurred during a thrilling match where United, having taken a 4-3 lead through Matheus Cunha with just 11 minutes remaining, once again failed to hold on. Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi netted a neat close-range finish to snatch a dramatic point for the visitors in stoppage time.
Post-Match Focus on Defensive Frailties
The result leaves Manchester United sixth in the Premier League table, with Amorim making his dissatisfaction with his defensive unit abundantly clear after the final whistle. In his post-match press conference, the manager pinpointed where his team is falling short.
'I think we are pressing better, we are controlling the game better far from our goal,' Amorim stated. 'We are lacking quality when we defend our goal. It's something that we need to address, of course.'
He expressed particular frustration at conceding goals despite creating far more chances than the opposition. 'It's really frustrating. But we need to work a lot in the way we defend the box,' he added.
Not the First Time for Young Yoro
This is not the first time this season that the 20-year-old French defender, Leny Yoro, has been the subject of the manager's public commentary. Earlier in December, after Yoro looked disconsolate when substituted during a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace, Amorim claimed the player 'thinks too much'.
Amorim explained at the time that Yoro's reaction showed he cared, but that his youth and desire for perfection can work against him after a mistake. 'He's growing with games and with setbacks, it's not easy for him as a young guy,' the manager said, while also affirming the defender's fitness and readiness for future challenges.
The latest incident and result will intensify scrutiny on United's inconsistent form and their vulnerability at the back, with Amorim now facing a clear task to solidify his defence if the team is to climb the table.
