Borussia Dortmund's German international Karim Adeyemi has reportedly informed his current club that he would prefer a move to Arsenal over other Premier League suitors including Manchester United and Chelsea.
Contract Situation and Growing Interest
The 23-year-old winger is approaching the final 18 months of his contract with Dortmund, leading to increased speculation that this season could be his last at Westfalenstadion. Adeyemi has attracted attention from several elite European clubs thanks to his blistering pace and impressive early-season form.
His recent performances have only strengthened this interest, with the Germany international scoring his fourth goal of the campaign in all competitions during Dortmund's thrilling 3-3 draw with Stuttgart last weekend. He has also contributed three assists across Bundesliga and Champions League matches this season.
Premier League Suitors Line Up
According to reports from The Mirror, Manchester United have been closely monitoring Adeyemi's situation at Dortmund with hopes of bringing the attacker to Old Trafford. United officials have allegedly made contact with the player's representative, super-agent Jorge Mendes, to explore the possibility of securing a deal in 2026.
However, the Red Devils are reportedly preparing for disappointment in the pursuit, as Adeyemi has personally identified Premier League leaders Arsenal as his preferred destination. This preference comes despite Chelsea also maintaining interest in the German forward, having held talks to sign him as recently as January before turning their attention to other attacking targets.
Dortmund's Stance and Player Versatility
Borussia Dortmund have placed a substantial £75 million price tag on their sought-after attacker. Contract renewal discussions between the club and player have reportedly ground to a halt, with head coach Niko Kovac increasingly resigned to losing the winger next season.
One aspect that would particularly appeal to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is Adeyemi's versatility. Since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, he has operated effectively as a No.10 and on either flank, though his preferred position remains the right wing - currently occupied by Bukayo Saka at the Emirates.
Off-Field Controversy and Club Support
Adeyemi recently found himself in the headlines for less positive reasons after being charged with possession of two illegal weapons - a knuckleduster and a stun gun. The player issued a lengthy apology on Instagram, describing his actions as a "huge mistake" and explaining that he had ordered a "mystery box" online without considering its contents.
Despite this error in judgement, Dortmund coach Kovac has reassured the player that he will receive the club's "full support," stating: "It is no reason for me to ban him for the next few weeks. I am not his father, but his coach. People should put things into proper perspective."
The situation continues to develop as the January transfer window approaches, with Arsenal appearing to hold a significant advantage in the race for one of Germany's most exciting attacking talents.
