While both the men's and women's Grands Depart will take place in the United Kingdom during July and August of 2027, London has been selected exclusively for the women's competition. The United Kingdom last hosted the Grand Depart in 2014, when stages in Yorkshire attracted thousands of spectators before the peloton continued to France. Prior to that, the men's 2007 Tour de France began with an individual time trial in London, followed by a stage from the capital to Canterbury that concluded the UK visit.

The hosting of the Tour de France Femmes comes amid a flurry of international sporting events being staged in London. Earlier this year, NBA basketball returned to the O2 Arena for the first time since 2019, while the Pro Climbing League, Pro Padel Tour, and World Team Table Tennis Championship Finals will all be held in the capital in the coming months.
