A cyclist in her 20s has tragically died following a collision with a lorry near a south London Tube station. The incident occurred on Kennington Park Road in Lambeth, close to the Brixton Road junction and Oval Underground station.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 11am yesterday. Paramedics provided immediate treatment, but despite their best efforts, the young woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Arrest Made
A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
Detective Sergeant James Moody, of the Met's roads and transport policing command, said: 'Our thoughts remain with the young woman's loved ones at this incredibly distressing time. Though we have made an arrest, it is vital we try to build up a full picture of this incident. We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any relevant information to come forward and speak to police – particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.'

Florence Eshalomi, MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green, expressed her condolences on social media, writing: 'Very sad to hear about a fatal road traffic accident on Kennington Park Road. My thoughts and prayers to the victim's family. Thank you to our emergency services for their response. Please try and avoid the area as the road is still closed off.'
Separate Incident Near King's Cross
In a separate incident on Saturday, a man was seriously injured after a crash believed to have involved a lorry near King's Cross station. He was treated at the scene at around 4:46pm before being taken to a London major trauma centre, the London Ambulance Service confirmed.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward as investigations continue.
