Warhorse Studios has confirmed that the follow-up to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 could launch as early as next year, with all indications pointing to a spin-off adventure rather than a full-fledged sequel.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been a major critical and commercial success for the developer, selling over five million copies since its release in February 2025. Building on that momentum, the studio recently announced two new projects: a Lord of the Rings open-world role-playing game and a new Kingdom Come adventure.
During a livestream on Friday, May 22, Warhorse communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling provided additional details about the studio's next title. While it has not been confirmed whether the next Kingdom Come adventure is Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3, the planned launch window suggests a smaller-scale evolution from its predecessor.
According to Stolz-Zwilling, the next Kingdom Come game is slated for release in the 'next fiscal year,' meaning between April 2027 and March 2028. 'If everything goes right it comes next fiscal year,' he said. 'Which means you don’t have to wait seven years for another Kingdom Come. That is good!'
The developer also confirmed that the next title will be an 'open world RPG,' like the prior two games. To achieve such a tight turnaround, it is likely that the new game will reuse assets and mechanics from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, making it a smaller-scale offering similar to Dying Light: The Beast or Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
This suggests that the Lord of the Rings game is further off, as building assets for Middle-earth and replicating J.R.R. Tolkien's world will require significantly more work. Prokop Jirsa, a designer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is serving as creative director for the next Kingdom Come entry, while Viktor Bocan leads the Lord of the Rings team.
Warhorse reportedly had around 250 employees in 2024, and even with recent hires, developing two open-world RPGs simultaneously is a massive undertaking. However, if the next Kingdom Come game is not a mainline sequel, the plan may be to complete it quickly and then shift all resources to The Lord of the Rings.
