Arsenal have submitted their opening offer for Leicester City's teenage prodigy Jeremy Monga, but the bid has been swiftly rejected. The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking options this summer and have already identified several high-profile targets, including Julian Alvarez and Morgan Rogers. Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola is also of interest, while Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi is firmly on the radar of the Premier League champions.
Arsenal's transfer strategy focuses on young talent
As well as recruiting attackers capable of making an immediate impact, Arsenal are refining their transfer strategy to sign some of Europe's most promising young talents. Monga certainly fits that category, and Arsenal started the bidding with an offer of £5 million. Reports earlier this week claimed the Premier League champions had agreed a fee for the 16-year-old, but Leicester have now dismissed that offer, according to The Times, and have made their demands clear.
The Foxes are reported to want an initial fee of £10 million plus a 15 per cent sell-on clause. If a transfer fee cannot be agreed, a tribunal would take place where Leicester would receive significant compensation. Arsenal, however, would prefer to avoid such a scenario and are seeking a swift resolution that would allow Monga to take a full part in pre-season training.
Monga's debut and interest from other clubs
Monga has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, having made his Premier League debut at 5 years and 271 days against Newcastle United back in April 2025. His potential has made him one of the most sought-after young players in English football.
In addition to Monga, Arsenal are also hopeful of poaching Elijah Upson, the son of their former defender Matthew Upson, from local rivals Tottenham. Phoenix Blayney, Larne's 15-year-old goalkeeper, is also destined to sign. However, it is far from one-way traffic, with Arsenal fighting to keep hold of some of their best emerging talent.
Arsenal face competition for young stars
Kyren Thompson could make the opposite journey to Upson, with Spurs confident of securing a deal for the talented winger. Meanwhile, Emerson Nwaneri, the younger brother of Ethan, is attracting significant interest from elsewhere. Arsenal's pursuit of young talent is part of a broader strategy to build for the future, but they face stiff competition from rivals.
