The draw for the knockout stages of the women's World Cup has produced a wild and wacky format that gives some teams much easier routes than others, according to a bracketology analysis.
US Team's Path
Under the most plausible scenarios, the United States would face Bosnia, then either Egypt or Senegal. While the US could certainly lose one of those games, the path is relatively gentle compared to other top teams.
France and Argentina Face Tougher Routes
France would have to contend with Sweden, then almost certainly Germany. Argentina would face Uruguay, followed by likely Belgium. Both teams face significantly stiffer competition in the early knockout rounds.
Projected Round of 16
If all favorites win, the round of 16 would feature: Germany vs. France, Canada vs. Netherlands, Ghana vs. Spain, USA vs. Egypt, Brazil vs. Côte d’Ivoire, Switzerland vs. Colombia, Argentina vs. Belgium, and a massive game between England and Mexico.
