Scottish football fans have descended on Miami ahead of the World Cup clash against Brazil, filling bars with tartan and receiving a warm welcome from local authorities. The Tartan Army, known for their passionate support, took part in two parades in the city, mingling with Brazil fans in a display of camaraderie.
Police Commissioner Welcomes Fans
Miami police commissioner Rolando Escalona joined the festivities, filming a video with a Scottish fan. 'Welcome to Miami, guys. Glad to have you here. Let's get the party started. Welcome to Little Havana. I hope to see you all today and throughout the weekend,' he said. The fan responded, 'You will not believe this – we're in Little Havana with the actual commissioner in Miami and he has just put a cone on a chicken. All cones are now welcome. Spread the word to the Tartan Army. Miami is welcoming us now.'
Traffic Cone Tradition Approved
The Glaswegian tradition of placing traffic cones on statues received official approval from Miami police. During parades, vehicles from the Miami fire department with open rooftops offered fans rides. The scenes mirrored those in Boston earlier in the tournament.
Fan Zones Across Scotland
Back home, thousands of fans are expected to watch the match at fan zones, including the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow and The Pitt in Edinburgh. Gigantic screens will show the game, with music and chants building atmosphere. Chris Cairns, 35, from Auchterarder, said watching at the Hydro was 'the next best thing' after being unable to travel to America. John Wight from Bishopton added, 'It's a good idea to come to the Hydro. It's the biggest venue in Scotland.'
High Stakes for Scotland
Scotland face Brazil in their third group game, needing a win to reach the knockout stage for the first time. A draw would almost guarantee qualification. Despite Brazil being ranked fifth in the world and Scotland 41st, fans dream of history. The match kicks off at 11pm UK time on Wednesday.
