McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has praised Lando Norris for his maturity, saying the British driver has grown into a leader capable of spearheading the team's Formula One championship ambitions.
Stella highlights Norris's development
Speaking ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Stella noted that Norris, 26, has taken on greater responsibility within the team. "Lando has shown tremendous growth over the past two seasons," Stella said. "He is now a complete driver who understands not just his own performance but how to elevate the entire team."
Norris, who joined McLaren in 2019, has scored three race wins and 14 podiums in 2025, placing him second in the drivers' standings behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen. McLaren currently leads the constructors' championship by 18 points.
Team dynamics and leadership
Stella emphasized that Norris's leadership extends beyond driving. "He is very active in engineering meetings, pushing for improvements and motivating the crew. That is the mark of a true team leader," Stella added. The team principal also credited Norris for helping younger drivers, including rookie Oscar Piastri, adapt to F1.
Norris acknowledged the shift in his role. "I feel more comfortable taking charge now," he said. "I want to be the driver who can bring the team to the next level."
Championship outlook
With 12 races remaining in the season, McLaren is focused on maintaining its constructors' lead while Norris chases his first drivers' title. "We have the car and the driver to fight for both championships," Stella concluded.
