Manchester United have held talks to sign San Lorenzo and Paraguay star Orlando Gill, according to the goalkeeper's agent Mario Jara. Gill was one of the standout performers at the 2026 World Cup, playing every minute as Paraguay reached the last 16, notably knocking out Germany in a penalty shootout where he saved spot-kicks from Kai Havertz and Nick Woltemade.
World Cup heroics attract European interest
The 26-year-old registered clean sheets against Turkey and Australia in Group D and finished with the most saves of any goalkeeper at the tournament, making 28 stops across five matches. Curacao's Eloy Room was the next closest with 21 saves in three group-stage appearances.
Earlier this month, Gill revealed he had received multiple offers to leave San Lorenzo, with his World Cup displays drawing attention from top European clubs. Olympiakos, Aston Villa, Ipswich, Torino, Fiorentina, Feyenoord, and Bayern Munich have all been linked, alongside Manchester United, despite the club already signing Karl Darlow on a free transfer.
Agent confirms talks and concrete offers
Gill's agent Mario Jara has now provided further details on the negotiations. 'We are in talks with English clubs, as well as clubs in Germany. There were enquiries from Manchester United,' Jara told DSports. 'We only received two concrete offers. We are currently in the negotiation phase.'
Jara believes the time is right for Gill to move to a top European league. 'The sale is close, the time is right. We have to handle it very carefully because there are many things involved. It's ideal for him to take a step up in quality. He's prepared and capable of playing in any league, without a doubt,' he added.
Move would benefit all parties
According to Jara, a summer transfer would benefit everyone, including San Lorenzo. 'We're trying to finalise it as quickly as possible for everyone's benefit. It would be very important for San Lorenzo, hopefully it will come to fruition,' he said.
Jara also praised Gill's mentality, saying he was 'not surprised' by his World Cup performances. 'He has no ceiling and he has a lot of room to grow, but what he did against Germany really catapulted him. He has a great capacity for handling difficult situations. He has a great personality for coping with those kinds of situations.'
Potential role at Old Trafford
Should Gill join Manchester United, he would serve as backup to undisputed number one Senne Lammens, who had a strong debut season under manager Michael Carrick. Gill's current contract with San Lorenzo runs through to the end of 2027.
