Australian artistic gymnast Kate McDonald secured her second gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning the uneven bars title on Monday with a near-flawless routine that scored 14.333 points.
Dominant performance erases Birmingham disappointment
McDonald, 25, banished the haunting memory of her seventh-place finish in the same event at the 2022 Birmingham Games. She was the only gymnast to surpass the 14.000-point mark, finishing 0.433 points ahead of Canada's Ellie Black. Wales' Emily Roper took bronze.
This victory follows McDonald's team gold earlier in the competition, making her two-for-two in Glasgow. Teammate Ruby Pass, 19, finished eighth after a fall during her routine.
Hardy wins floor bronze with personal tribute
Australia also celebrated a bronze medal from James Hardy in the men's floor exercise, scoring 13.433 points. It was Hardy's first individual medal and his second bronze overall at his debut Games. The medal ended Australia's 16-year drought on the men's floor apparatus.
Hardy competed with a pink ribbon painted on his right ring fingernail in tribute to his mother Sally, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. Sally is now in remission but could not travel to Glasgow. Hardy's teammates—Jesse Moore, Ritam Malik, Ben Foster, and Tru Hagens—also painted their nails in support.
Mixed results for other Australians
Malik missed pommel horse bronze by 0.500 points, while Moore finished seventh after falling off the apparatus. Georgia Godwin placed fifth in the vault final, failing to defend her title. Earlier, Moore had won individual all-around bronze on Sunday.
