Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was arrested early Tuesday morning on multiple felony charges, including domestic battery by strangulation, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The 26-year-old NFL star was taken into custody after an incident at a residence in the Summerlin area.
Details of the Arrest
Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at approximately 2:30 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim, who reported that Jacobs had physically assaulted her and placed his hands around her neck. The victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene. Jacobs was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of domestic battery by strangulation, a felony, and second-degree kidnapping, also a felony.
League and Team Response
The NFL immediately placed Jacobs on the commissioner's exempt list, barring him from all team activities pending the outcome of the legal process. The Las Vegas Raiders issued a statement saying they are aware of the situation and are gathering more information. "We take these matters very seriously and are cooperating fully with law enforcement," the statement read.
Jacobs, who led the NFL in rushing yards in 2022 with 1,653 yards, signed a four-year, $48 million contract extension with the Raiders in 2023. His arrest raises serious questions about his future with the team and the league.
Legal Proceedings
Jacobs is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Wednesday. His attorney, David Chesnoff, declined to comment on the charges. The NFL's personal conduct policy allows for discipline regardless of legal outcomes, and Jacobs could face a lengthy suspension or even banishment if found to have violated the policy.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the sports world, with many fans and analysts expressing disappointment. Advocacy groups against domestic violence have called for a thorough investigation and appropriate consequences.
