Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova secured their places in the Wimbledon women's singles final with straight-set victories in the semifinals on Thursday. Gauff defeated Marta Kostyuk 6-3, 6-4, while Muchova overcame Linda Noskova 7-5, 6-2.
Gauff's Dominant Display
The American, seeded second, took control from the start against Kostyuk, breaking her serve in the opening game. Gauff's powerful groundstrokes and athleticism proved too much for the Ukrainian, who struggled to find her rhythm. Gauff saved the only break point she faced in the match and converted two of her six break opportunities.
According to match statistics, Gauff won 76% of her first-serve points and hit 18 winners to 12 unforced errors. Kostyuk, ranked 20th, managed just 10 winners and committed 15 unforced errors.
Muchova's Crafty Victory
Muchova, the unseeded Czech, used her variety and tactical nous to outmaneuver Noskova, who had upset top seed Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. Muchova broke Noskova's serve three times and saved four of five break points against her own serve.
Muchova said after the match: "I'm really happy with my performance. Linda played amazing tennis to get here, so I knew I had to be aggressive and mix up my shots. I'm excited for the final."
Final Showdown
Saturday's final will be a rematch of the 2023 US Open final, where Gauff defeated Muchova in straight sets. Both players have improved since then, with Gauff winning her first Grand Slam title and Muchova reaching the top 10. This will be their first meeting on grass.
Gauff, who has not dropped a set all tournament, is aiming for her second Grand Slam title. Muchova, a finalist at the 2023 French Open, seeks her first major championship.
