England surged to the top of the medal table on day six of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, securing 12 gold medals across swimming, athletics, weightlifting, netball, and basketball. The day’s performances solidified England’s lead over Australia and Canada.
Swimming Dominance Continues
In the pool, England’s swimmers added three gold medals. Tom Dean won the men’s 200m freestyle in a time of 1:45.23, while Freya Anderson claimed the women’s 100m butterfly. The mixed 4x100m medley relay team also took gold, setting a new Games record.
Australia’s Ariarne Titmus won the women’s 400m freestyle, and Canada’s Maggie Mac Neil took gold in the women’s 100m backstroke. England now leads the swimming medal table with eight golds overall.
Athletics Highlights
On the track, England’s Dina Asher-Smith won the women’s 200m in 22.12 seconds, her second gold of the Games. In the men’s 400m hurdles, Jamaica’s Jaheel Hyde upset the favorite to win gold. The women’s 800m saw Scotland’s Jemma Reekie take silver, while England’s Keely Hodgkinson settled for bronze.

Weightlifting and Netball
In weightlifting, England’s Emily Campbell won the women’s +87kg category with a total lift of 285kg, setting a new Commonwealth record. Netball saw England defeat Jamaica 62-55 in a thrilling semifinal, advancing to the gold medal match against Australia.
“We knew it would be tough, but the team showed great character,” said England netball captain Natalie Haythornthwaite. “We’re excited for the final.”
Basketball and Other Results
In basketball, England’s women’s team defeated Canada 88-76 to reach the semifinals. The men’s team also advanced after a 95-82 win over Scotland. The medal table currently shows England with 12 golds, Australia with 10, and Canada with 8. The Games continue through August 3.
