A synagogue in north London was evacuated on Wednesday after a fire spread from a neighboring home, prompting a large emergency response. Hundreds of people have been moved to safety as firefighters battle the blaze on Kyverdale Road in Hackney.
Emergency Services Respond
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called to the scene at 4:15pm and are supporting the London Fire Brigade. As a precaution, several houses on the road and the adjacent synagogue have been evacuated. A police spokesperson stated: “We appreciate that given the location of the fire and proximity to the synagogue, there will undoubtedly be community concern. We are working closely with the London Fire Brigade and within these early stages are keeping an open mind as to the cause of the fire.”
Community Impact
Local volunteer group Shomrim reported that multiple fire crews are tackling the significant blaze and urged the public to avoid the area. Road closures are in place, and officers remain available to speak with concerned residents and the wider community. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
