Women Appear in Court Over Inverclyde Death Investigation

Two women have appeared before a Scottish court facing charges related to the death of a man whose body was discovered in an Inverclyde field. Dorothy Shields, aged 64, and Nicola Brisland, also known as Nicola Campbell, 41, are both accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Discovery of Robert Best's Body

The case centres on the death of Robert Best, 50. His body was found near High Mathernock Farm in Kilmacolm on the morning of 11 November 2025. Mr Best had been reported missing from Greenock on that same day, prompting a police investigation.

The two female suspects, both from Port Glasgow, made their initial appearance at Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. During the hearing, they made no plea to the single charge against them. The court granted both women bail while they await their next court appearance, the date for which remains to be confirmed.

Broader Context of the Case

This development is part of a wider investigation into Mr Best's death. Two other individuals, Andrew Brodie, 51, and Stephen Shields, 44, have already been charged in connection with the case. Both men, from Greenock, face more serious charges of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Brodie and Shields appeared in court last week, where they also made no plea. Unlike the women, they were remanded in custody pending their next court date.

Police Scotland has confirmed that its enquiries are ongoing. Officers are investigating a reported disturbance on Lansbury Street in Greenock, which is believed to have occurred between 11pm on 10 November and 3am on 11 November.

In related activity, a 45-year-old man arrested in connection with an assault and a 41-year-old man arrested alongside Shields and Brisland have both been released pending further enquiries.
