Three Dangerous Men Convicted for Lewisham Rape of 14-Year-Old Girl
Three men with an average age of 39 have been convicted for the brutal rape of a 14-year-old girl in the Lewisham area of London. The horrific attack occurred at a residential property in New Cross on June 27 of last year, with police identifying Daryl German, 43, of Melfield Gardens in Lewisham, as the primary perpetrator in this disturbing case.
Coordinated Attack and Explicit Messages
German initially identified the vulnerable 14-year-old victim walking alone in Catford and coerced her into accompanying him to his flat, where he subjected her to sexual assault. The situation escalated when German invited Jordan Donely Wint, 31, of Winterstoke Road in Lewisham, to join them. Both men subsequently discovered the girl was a missing child but made no attempt to contact her family or alert authorities.
German then sent sexually explicit text messages to Deon Smith, 45, of New Cross Road in New Cross, detailing his contact with the minor. The victim was subsequently taken to Smith's residence, where she endured further sexual violence. This coordinated exploitation revealed a chilling disregard for the victim's wellbeing and safety.
Court Convictions and Sentencing
At Woolwich Crown Court last Friday, German faced multiple convictions including arranging travel for exploitation, three counts of rape, assault by penetration, and two counts of making indecent images of a child. He received a substantial 15-year prison sentence with an additional three years on extended licence.
Wint was convicted of one count of rape and one count of assault by penetration, resulting in a six-year custodial sentence. Smith received seven years imprisonment after being convicted of one count of rape. All three offenders have been placed on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
Police Investigation and Victim Resilience
Detective Constable Jack Bessaid praised the victim's exceptional resilience and determination, noting her courage proved crucial to the successful prosecution of these dangerous individuals. The dedicated investigation team uncovered comprehensive evidence demonstrating the harmful actions all three men played throughout the attack, securing their removal from London's streets.
The Metropolitan Police emphasized their transformed approach to investigating rape and sexual offences, more than doubling the number of rape cases charged since 2021. Authorities are working diligently to ensure all victim-survivors have confidence to report these terrible crimes through improved listening practices and collaboration with charities and criminal justice partners.
