Emmanuel Akintoye, a 38-year-old from Howdens Close in Thamesmead, has avoided prison after driving at 110mph in a 50mph zone before crashing into another car and a lamppost. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he admitted charges of dangerous driving and possessing crack cocaine and heroin.
Details of the Dangerous Driving Incident
Court documents state that Akintoye was observed driving dangerously between Plumstead and Thamesmead on November 20 last year. The incident began on Pettman Crescent, where he then turned onto Western Way, reaching speeds of 110mph on the 50mph road.
He continued onto Eastern Way, where he mounted the central reservation and drove on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic. He subsequently collided with another car and a lamppost, according to court documents.
Sentence and Penalties Imposed
Magistrates sentenced Akintoye to one year in custody, but the sentence was suspended for two years. He was also given an 18-month driving ban and must pass an extended driving test before he can drive again.
In addition, magistrates ordered that the crack cocaine and heroin seized from him be destroyed. The case was reported by Josh Bolton, court and crime reporter.
